It seems like since we're not getting a diverse representation of Black women on the small screen, ladies are hitting up the web and doing it for themselves! I'm already addicted to The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, and I've started to look for other web series that provide a view of Black women that I can identify with. Well, I've found another one. It's only one episode in, but I'm already excited for more! Allow me to introduce you to Milk + Honey.
Milk + Honey is described as:
"a dramedy series that follows the spiritual, professional and romantic journeys of four young, ambitious African-American women navigating through the lights, smoke and mirrors of Hollywood."
The brainchild of production company Brown Paper Dolls, Milk + Honey has been blessed with some serious Black star power. Executive produced by Idris Elba, starring Lance Gross, Bryce Wilson, AND Debbie Allan? You can't go wrong with that! Plus, the 3 leading ladies we've met so far (Asha Kamali, Yaani King, and Shauntay Hinton) are beautiful and have great chemistry. I can see parts of me in all 3, but especially Asha's character Nia. We'll see what happens with the fourth (Fuane Chambers' character Farrah, perhaps?) is added to the mix.
There's a lot of potential in this web series, so I can't wait to see how things play out! Here's episode 1:
