August has somehow become a milestone month for me. I got married in August. I made the decision to start wearing my hair in its natural state in August. And on August 18th, 2011, I posted my very first piece on '83 To Infinity.
Can you believe it's already been one year? They say 'time flies when you're having fun', so I guess that explains why this year has seemed to speed by on fast forward. When I made the decision to start this blog, I was nervous beyond belief. Of course, I loved to write - but the thought of exposing my writing to the eyes of friends, family, and strangers alike was nerve-wracking. I worried about sounding stupid. I worried that no one would "get me". I worried that no one would even bother to read my writing. Now, I can look back and say - I worried too damn much!
This year taught me much more than I expected. From the technical side of blogging (navigating Wordpress, self-hosting sites, and web design), to continuously striving to create quality content, the lessons were everywhere and I've tried to absorb as much as I could. The biggest lesson has been the one that I learned about myself - I could do it. I was doing it. And I absolutely LOVE doing it! My passion for writing has reached new levels - the levels that find me counting down the minutes until I can get home and blog or journal, and where I can find myself writing for hours at a time without stopping for a bathroom break or dinner.
My passions and journeys have been the driving motivation behind this site. Natural hair care, health & wellness, careers, relationships, art & culture are all things that ignite my mind, and will always remain at the heart of '83 To Infinity. I've been able to truly see that when you follow your heart and your passion, the Universe conspires to bring you more and more incredible things. That being said, I want to encourage every single person who is reading this to think about what they're passionate about. Think about what it is that you absolutely love to do. Nothing is too silly or too far-fetched - if you love it, you should be doing it. Life is too short to deny yourself the joys of being immersed in your gifts and your passions.
So, where does '83 To Infinity go in its second year? The goal is just to get bigger and better, and to expand into new ways of exploring my life's passions. As always, I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who takes time to read, comment, subscribe, email, text, share with friends, follow on Twitter, or join the Facebook page. Thank you so much, and I hope y'all keep on journeying with me in year two and beyond!
